For countless families in Bangladesh, ‘home’ is a cardboard box, a tin shack or a makeshift shanty. Mired in poverty and barely able to feed their families, the poor have little hope for a better life.
Millions live in crowded ghettos and slums with little to shelter them from the weather. Lack of clean water and sanitation gives rise to the spread of infectious diseases, especially among those who are most vulnerable — the young and the elderly.
The poor who live in these conditions are particularly affected by natural disasters such as flooding and cyclones. Those who survive are left even poorer and struggle to rebuild their homes. Many are still suffering the after effects of Cyclone Sidr which struck in November of 2007.
Through Needy Care’s ‘Shelter for the Poor’ programme, we are helping people repair their houses where possible, and build new ones where necessary.
We need your help to continue and expand this vital project for people who have nowhere to live.
